Margaret Thatcher Queen of Hollywood review Assembly Gardens Edinburgh Fringe 2026
Margaret Thatcher Queen of Hollywood
4⭐⭐⭐⭐
Margaret Thatcher after retirement is well and alive and kicking and living in Hollywood. Played with gusto by Matt Ted Ford in drag. He has her deep voice and mannerisms down to a tee, wearing her Iconic blue suit and handbag slung over her lower arm.
She is up for an Oscar is it Privatising Miss Daisy, No it’s far, far camper Maggie is up for the return of The Iron Lady.
From Prime Minister to Hollywood legend she rises again to stab women in the back and gloat about the miners strike.
Hollywood has became Maggieland aided and abetted with a host of characters such as, Dick the sex pest producer who bears a very similar likeness to Harvey Weinstein.
All the characters are played by duo Kathy Maniura and Rosalie using more props than has ever been seen on a fringe stage.
This is camp as knickers which is more than fitting as Maggie introduced the horrific Section 28 rule in schools. Banning teachers the opportunity to engage in talks about being gay.
She rips into politics of the time, selling social housing, unions and strikes. You don't need to know much about 80's politics but it helps.
This woman never liked a Barbie Doll she was too busy privatising her train set.
She gets a full Maggiewood makeover and the sight of Thatcher’s breasts are one I will never unsee. A reference to her dress might split the room but I found it hilarious Matt went for it.
This is a panto like performance, will like all good pantos the evil queen see the error of her ways, or has this witch only got a heart of stone.
Given the fact the entire audience in Scotland were on their feet at the end this is an Iron Lady you won’t want to miss
