The High Life, The Musical Review Kings Theatre Glasgow (2026)
The High Life, The Musical had me laughing from start to finish, along with a full house this Wednesday afternoon.
Alan Cumming reprising his role of Sebastian Flight and Forbes Masson as Steve McCracken burst on to stage to cheers, whistles and applause as did original cast members Siobhan Redmond as Shona Spurtle and Patrick Ryecart as Captain Hillary Duff.
The love for the 6 episode cult Scottish sitcom was evident, most of the audience having seen it in 1994.
This was truly a pantomime for adults, Air Scotia is in the throes of being bought over and turned in to Air GB, the cabin crew must spot Mylie played by the excellently camp Kyle Gardner and thwart his mission.
Although the High Life was a sitcom it was very surreal and Johnny McKnight captures this madness to a tee. Including a plane crash on an Island called The Lower Largo Triangle. With Captain Duff appearing more ridiculous in various costumes throughout the madness.
This has wonderfully old gags alongside new political barbs the news doesn't escape with Ex - Prince Andrew and Michelle Mone the butt of a few.
This truly is a dream cast along with the four original leads, Ross Baxter, Lauren Ellis - Steel, Ciara Flynn and Grant McIntyre make up the ensemble. Rachael Kendall Brown as Kylie has joined the cabin crew, a lactose intolerant Lesbian with eyes only for Shona.
Louise McCarthy brings her comedy genius to Heather, one time lover of Steve with more up her sleeve than she lets on. She gets some of the most hilarious one liners and the sex scene with Forbes is comedy gold.
There is some moral to the story, as everyone is aging, Alan and Forbes both 60, it's time to face up to ageing and don't look back too much.
If you want a laugh, and who doesn't, fly with Air Scotia one last time and revel in the adult pantomime that is The High Life. You even get a panto style sing song led by Anne Scott-Jones.
