The Hen Night Review A Play A Pie and A Pint Glasgow Oran Mor (2026)

The Hen Night by Debbie Hannan.

The title of the play makes you think this will be an end of pier style comedy, and it does start off with Bride to Be Coral and her three hens on a drunken train ride to Edinburgh, with lots of Sambuca and far too many penis straws!

Jade ( Dani Heron) has the full weekend planned out on a spreadsheet. Amber the feisty friend ( Anna Russell - Martin) and Holistic pal Lilac ( Laura Lovemore) make up the hens.

Plans are thrown in to turmoil as Luna, a mysterious cousin of Coral turns up. She is more beautiful than anyone in the club quite literally a Goddess.

Warning the girls Coral ‘s life will change for the worse if she continues her plans to marry Scott.

They find out he is being coercive and controlling, the girls unite their furious super powers to free Coral from a marriage she will regret.

This play is practically perfect drawing on behaviour seen in many relationships, ending with ancient fury drawn from the old gods.

Luna is even described as having snakes in her hair bringing images of Medusa to mind.

All three of the actors are pitch perfect giving wonderful performances.

Laila Noble directs with serious aplomb, cleverly turning Lilac and Amber in to Coral with a reversal of sash, one side hen other bride. Amber takes on Luna perfectly giving the ethereal goddess real power.

The movement on stage is as poetical as their spoken words when becoming the avengers. At no point does she let the pace drop.
