The Eight Faces of Ellie Morrison review Edinburgh Fringe 2026 Greenside George Street
The Eight Faces of Ellie Morrison
4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ellie Morrison is a pop star destined for big things; however her drink and pills addiction are causing cracks to appear with her agent, he can’t keep getting her big gigs if the addiction is affecting her performance.
Justin enters he is long-time friend and old business partner of Ellie’s agent, now branching out on his own with the Apex Fight Club. He has seen her brother Luke fight and wants to bring him on board. He feels there is huge money in him. However Luke has given up.
Promising Ellie a huge tour if she can make it happen, she plies Luke with enough drink and drugs to sign the contract.
Without giving too many plot points away things don’t work out as everyone hoped. However, Luke will do the fight for his sister.
What follows is a superbly choreographed Mixed Martial Art fight in a full-sized ring.
Will Luke manage to take the victory for the family? Well, that would be telling!
This is a play with a whole lot of heart; I felt some of the story set up could have been truncated to keep the urgent feeling and flow to the piece. As some of the huge things are a bit too brief for full impact.
I would have loved Ellie to be miked up when singing and the commentators amplified for the fight, I’m guessing with so many rooms in the venue, it might be a sound constraint.
All in all, this is good solid play, well performed, choreographed and with a good story.
A great addition to your fringe day.
